Why Knightlab?

Intro to Knightlab

Hello friends, Jordan here. Welcome to the maiden voyage of the Knightlab blog articles journey. My goal for the blog really is two-fold. Firstly, it’s to offer a different perspective on how someone can approach digital and marketing. If it convinces anyone to change their ways then great, but at the very least offer a different way to frame and think about digital.

The second reason is a little selfish, but I hope the regular writing will allow me to put my thoughts down to make more sense of it and be more clear of how I think about them. These blogs won’t reveal my deepest and darkest thoughts and fantasies (Knightlab OnlyFans), but rather a collection of news, principals, concepts, parallels, truths and half truths, that can apply to marketing and digital strategy.

So why Knightlab?

I started Knightlab in the last 24 months or so. It was actually towards the start of the COVID pandemic era and looming recession. What a time to start a business. It was always a curious ambition of mine, so if not now then when? So off I trot to start a small business best described as ‘the Lannister love child of a freelancing consultant strategist, and a marketing enthusiast who dabbles in web-development’. I named him Knightlab.

Those of you who know me will know my first name is actually Knight. To name my business after myself wasn’t meant to be a point of self gratification, but rather a symbol of accountability and wearing my heart on my sleeve. It’s also a tribute to early- 20s uni student Jordan, desperately cramming to get assessments over the line and pulling out all-(k)nighters in the computer labs. I’m sure uni Jordan would be proud to know he’s working for himself now, and his 1989 Toyota Corolla has been upgraded to a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Oh how far we’ve come.

Direct to client

Being an independent freelance digital strategist allows for me (eg. Knightlab) to best service clients directly, free from the overheads and bureaucratic strings of agency. I was often front of house working with clients and strategising alongside them to reach their requirements. At the same time I was back of house amongst the nitty gritty of all things technical, whether it be development, strategic proposals, or implementing digital marketing campaigns. Knightlab’s purpose is to get the best out of both worlds.

Technical skills, steeped in long term strategy, direct to client, for more permanent results.

You can go your own way

Knightlab is experimental in it’s own right. You hear a lot these days about digital authenticity, well I want to see how far that can really be pushed. Be ‘too authentic’, and run the risk of not being relevant enough for potential business. Don’t be authentic enough and get lost amongst the noise of other agencies, consultants, and freelancers etc.

Knightlab also is a platform to allow me to do marketing untethered. This only really occurred to me not that long ago that this would be the first time in my career that I can really do purely unfiltered marketing. Compare this to other professions would be akin to a mechanic never working on his own car, or a carpenter not doing the renos in their own home. Knightlab allows me to do my own marketing from start to finish the way I see it best.

That’s all from me today folks, have a good one.

Do Digital Differently.
